What should you know about copper earthing strips and wires for current paths?

Copper strip or wire connects the earth electrode to equipment, bonding points or the lightning protection route.

3E supplies copper conductors against project schedules. The useful question is not whether the metal looks heavy, it is whether section, strand form, joint and exposure match the current it may carry.

01

Forms

Copper strip, wire or stranded conductor as specified

02

Eurostar ESE options

70 mm2 stranded copper or 25 x 3 mm copper strip in the supplied schedule

03

Electrode examples

Copper inner strips and pipes vary across documented SIP and PIP models

Should the route use strip or stranded copper?

Follow the approved drawing. Mechanical movement, bend radius, termination method and current duty can make a flat strip sensible on one route and a stranded conductor the cleaner choice on another.

What should be checked at the terminal?

Look past the conductor. A large copper section still performs poorly when the lug, clamp or dissimilar-metal transition is undersized, loose or buried where nobody can inspect it.

What should a copper conductor enquiry include?

The company documents confirm strips and wires as product families. Dimensions outside the named lightning examples remain enquiry inputs.

Where are copper strips and wires used?

Use the application to settle the duty, material, dimensions and evidence required in the offer.

  1. 01

    Earthing networks

Main and branch conductors between equipment, test points and electrodes.

  2. 02

    Lightning down conductors

Copper strip or stranded copper selected under the approved LPS layout.

  3. 03

    Bonding

Connections between exposed metalwork and the protective conductor network.

What should be clear before you proceed?

Do you supply both copper strip and wire?

Yes, against the project schedule. Send the form, section, total length and terminal detail so the offer describes the same conductor.

Is 70 mm2 copper required for every lightning system?

No. It is one documented Eurostar ESE down-conductor option. The approved design controls the material and section.

Can copper be buried directly against GI?

Do not assume so. The project should define the transition and corrosion-control method at every dissimilar-metal interface.

Have a copper conductor schedule?

Send the strip or wire section, route length, joint detail, quantity and delivery location. We will quote the stated current path.
